I’m so high at the moment I’m so caught up in this Yeah, we’re just young, dumb and broke But we still got love to giveWhile we’re young dumb Young, young dumb and broke
Khalid might have meant this to be an altruistic prayer for people to come together to love in times of their adversity, but ‘Young, Dumb & Broke’ speaks on a higher political tone, a defining tone. ‘Young, Dumb & Broke’ is what the students of this generation are. While some may argue that that is a very harsh stance to take, the reality could get even harsher. It speaks of a generation that’s constantly busy doing nothing and complaining about everything. We are not entirely to be blamed. We are smoking greater things now, getting high on neo-liberal tax cuts and ‘walls’ of democracy and capitalism. On Mondays, we wait for our ‘Friyays’ and ‘Saturdays’ only to be complaining about how broke we are at the end of every week. Of unpaid internships, marijuana, hopelessness and capitalistic nihilism.
